Mission for Hayward
Campaign Agenda
Some people have planks... I have plans. My plans focus on a hierarchy of needs that every city and its citizens are entitled to.
Public safety
Every citizen has the right to have a safe community to live and work in; Hayward should not be an exception. Our diverse men and women of the Hayward Police Department provide exceptional service while being overworked and severely understaffed. As you are reading this, only nine officers are patrolling 283 miles of Hayward roads, which equates to one officer every 32 miles to cover armed robbery thefts, vandalism, missing persons, mental health calls, motor vehicle accidents, domestic disturbance, catalytic converter theft, and fireworks, to name a few. It's a heavy burden to place this upon any officer. It's an even heavier burden if we allow this to continue. We need additional officers to meet the needs of our community. Another critical aspect of attracting new officers to Hayward is a new police building. Our current building is fifty years old and outdated, and it needs multiple repairs and upgrades. In 2017, the city of Hayward pursued the idea of a new police building but quickly dropped it.
As your newly elected councilman, I will make sure the city recommits itself fully to a new police building during my term in the city council. We need to give our police the adequate tools and support they need to protect our residents and businesses in Hayward.
We Are Keeping Our Hayward Schools Open
We currently have over 5000 kids missing from our HUSD school system; many families have moved to other school systems, better-paying jobs, safer neighborhoods, or less expensive areas. We need to concentrate on our city and schools and bring back safety and affordable housing to communities. This way, we can help grow and attract people to Hayward and make HUSD a robust school system for our future Hayward families. I will be committed to making Hayward a robust school system where parents will want to keep their families in Hayward. I will jointly work with the HUSD school board to make this a reality for Hayward.
Attracting And Keeping Large And Small Business In Hayward
Some people in our city government believe small businesses should be responsible for their Business protection and the high insurance rates for theft. However, it only raises prices for consumers and is less likely to have new companies growing in the area. I want to keep small and large businesses growing and have our residents live, shop, and work in Hayward. Having robust public safety for our residents and businesses is crucial for our city. Public safety will help attract new small/large companies to Hayward in the future.
Affordable Housing/Unhoused Citizens
For the past couple of decades, the city has concentrated its efforts on high-density condos and townhomes throughout Hayward. This has caused families to move, a possibility of two Hayward schools closing next year, and our unhoused population to rise. We need to focus on our businesses and residents again, and make affordable housing our number one goal. We need to eliminate the city in-lieu fees for housing contractors.
Doing that alone will make an enormous positive change for Hayward and its future.
Very proud to see one of my agenda items from my 2020 campaign below is moving forward in Hayward.
“Coordination across services to ensure basic health and well-being needs are met (mental health services, health care, etc.)
Crisis Response Unit and tracking to reduce the revolving door into acute psych facilities such as John George, which don’t adequately address the long-term issues.”
Making Hayward a Family Destination
When I'm visiting friends in San Jose and driving back, I see an advertisement for Hayward, but it's for a dispensary. Currently, the city of Hayward has approved 2 dispensaries in Hayward. I want Hayward to be a destination spot, but not this way. I want to promote our town and return that family entertainment connection to Hayward again.
